Aleka Oswald’s journey is anything but ordinary.
Originally from London, England, Aleka came to the United States and, within months of arriving, made the decision to serve his new country. At just 18 years old, he enlisted in the United States Navy, beginning a chapter that would shape the rest of his life.
After boot camp, Aleka was stationed in Philadelphia before eventually heading out to sea, traveling throughout South America and the West Coast. His time in service came with both experience and sacrifice. In a random and unexpected incident while off base, Aleka was shot, an event that would have lasting physical and mental impacts.
Despite these challenges, he continued to serve, completing years at sea followed by time in the reserves.
Like many veterans, the transition back to civilian life was not without difficulty. Aleka faced significant struggles with his mental health, at one point finding himself at rock bottom. Through therapy, discipline, and a commitment to improving his well-being, he began rebuilding.
That same determination carried over into his next chapter.
Initially exploring real estate as an investment opportunity, Aleka began researching alternatives and discovered that owning a business could offer even greater potential. That research led to the creation of Delicious: An Interactive Taste Experience, a unique concept designed to bring people together through food, drink, and shared experiences.
Located in a historic building celebrating its 100-year anniversary, Delicious is more than just a place to eat or drink. It is an environment built around connection, creativity, and community. The space features local artwork, curated experiences, and a menu that reflects both Aleka and his wife Joy’s backgrounds, including authentic Chicago-style hot dogs and Philly mini cheesesteaks.
As a veteran-owned business, Delicious represents resilience, vision, and the willingness to take risks in pursuit of something greater.
During the process of building his business, Aleka connected with The Law Firm of Douglas G. Jackson. Through that relationship, our team assisted him with his VA disability claim, securing a 90 percent rating, and provided guidance on business formation and contractual matters as he moved forward with opening his establishment.
