Remembering Judge Frank Caprio: A Legacy of Justice, Kindness, and Advocacy

A Judge Like No Other

On August 20, 2025, the world lost Judge Frank Caprio, affectionately known as “the nicest judge in the world.” At 88, he passed away after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.

For nearly four decades on the Providence Municipal Court, and through his television show Caught in Providence, Judge Caprio became a household name. His courtroom was a place of fairness and humor, but most of all, compassion. He often dismissed fines for those facing hardships, listened intently to stories with patience, and proved that law doesn’t have to be cold—it can be human.

His Heart for Giving

Judge Caprio was more than just a judge; he was a lifelong giver. One cause close to his heart was the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (PanCAN). He supported their mission generously, raising awareness for early detection, treatment, and support for families affected by the disease that ultimately took his life.

This year, Alexis Egozcue and several friends of The Law Firm of Douglas G. Jackson proudly completed the PanCAN walk.  It was a small but meaningful way to honor the same fight that he supported with such passion.

The Human Side of Justice

Caprio’s courtroom moments live on as reminders of how justice can be both fair and compassionate. Whether joking with a child about their favorite pizza, encouraging a struggling student, or praising hardworking parents, he showed that empathy doesn’t weaken the law—it strengthens it.

His approach inspired millions worldwide and left an imprint on the legal community: justice should serve people, not just process.

Carrying His Spirit Forward

Judge Frank Caprio’s legacy is one of kindness, humor, and fairness, inside and outside the courtroom. His compassion, paired with his philanthropy, set a powerful example for all of us.

Let us carry forward his lesson: lead with kindness, fight for justice, and never forget the humanity behind every story.
