Just one year ago, on April 19, 2021, Luz A. Bastos became an attorney and member of the Florida Bar. That was not just a big moment for Ms. Bastos, but also a big moment for The Law Firm of Douglas G. Jackson. Ms. Bastos became the firm’s first associate attorney, which is a pillar of growth for any small law firm.
Becoming a member of the Florida Bar was a well-earned achievement. Ms. Bastos had attended the prestigious Stetson University College of Law, which is regularly in the top five law schools for its Trial Advocacy and Research and Writing Programs. It is also where Ms. Bastos’s sister had previously graduated, and where the founding attorney, Douglas G. Jackson graduated. Stetson Law is also the first law school in the nation to develop a Veterans Clinic, which coincides well with this firm, as we have a veterans disability practice among several other areas of law.
During law school, Ms. Bastos had worked at multiple firms and gained great experience. She worked at a firm where she drafted contractual documents, giving her transactional experience. She also worked at a litigation firm, which gave her insights to the litigation process. Prior to graduating Stetson Law, Ms. Bastos also became this firm’s first law clerk. That meant that she already knew our processes, and when she did become a full-fledged attorney, one year ago on April 19, 2021, she hit the ground running.
Since becoming an attorney, Ms. Bastos has only since improved. She has now attended many hearings, become more instrumental in case strategy development, she has travelled to D.C. to attend a National Association of Veterans Advocates (“NOVA”) conference, and she was even published in the Paraclete, which is published by the St. Petersburg Bar Association. Her achievements this early in her career are, in our opinion exceptional.
The firm is very proud to have Ms. Luz Bastos as an associate attorney and congratulates her on completing her first year as a lawyer. Our firm has certainly improved with her presence, and we are very excited to see how much more Ms. Bastos will accomplish at the beginning of what already appears to be shaping up to an extremely impressive career.
