The Law Firm of Douglas G. Jackson recently hosted another impactful Business Education Network (BEN) Workshop at the St. Pete Chamber, bringing together local business leaders, entrepreneurs, and community members for an afternoon centered on connection, collaboration, and long-term growth.
At its core, this workshop reinforced a central idea that continues to guide the firm’s approach to community engagement: business is not just transactional, it is relational. The most successful businesses are built on meaningful relationships, shared trust, and a commitment to supporting one another over time.
We are grateful to the St. Pete Chamber for once again providing a welcoming and collaborative space where professionals can come together to exchange ideas, build relationships, and strengthen the local business community. Events like BEN are designed to go beyond traditional networking by creating an environment where individuals can form genuine connections that lead to long-term partnerships.
This month’s workshop featured an outstanding group of speakers who each brought a unique perspective on what it means to play the long game in business and in life.
Mark Ferguson, owner of Ferg’s Sports Bar, shared insights grounded in decades of experience building one of the most recognizable establishments in St. Petersburg. His message emphasized the importance of patience, consistency, and staying committed to your vision, even when faced with challenges. His story served as a reminder that lasting success is rarely immediate and often requires a willingness to adapt and grow over time.
Donayle Whitmore of Cvested/ Venture Seeds Foundation offered a powerful perspective on shifting from transactional relationships to transformational partnerships. She highlighted how businesses can expand both their impact and their revenue by building ecosystems of collaboration rather than operating in isolation. Her approach reinforces the idea that when businesses work together, they create opportunities that extend far beyond what any one organization can achieve alone.
Jeff Anderson of The Irons Club spoke about creating experiences that bring people together and foster a sense of community. His insights focused on how businesses can differentiate themselves by prioritizing connection and engagement, ultimately building loyalty through meaningful interactions rather than one-time transactions.
David Grant of Parr Media Group and Parr Moto provided valuable expertise on strategic marketing and brand positioning. His perspective underscored the importance of understanding your audience and aligning your messaging in a way that resonates across platforms and partnerships.
While each speaker shared different insights, a common theme emerged throughout the workshop: the importance of building genuine relationships within the community. The discussion highlighted that success is not only about what you know, but who you know, how well you understand them, and how you support one another’s growth.
At The Law Firm of Douglas G. Jackson, this philosophy is central to how we approach both our work and our role in the community. By developing authentic relationships with other businesses and professionals, we are better positioned to understand their needs, connect them with the right resources, and support their long-term success. In turn, those relationships create a network of trust that benefits everyone involved.
This approach is not one-sided. Strong business relationships are built on mutual support, where collaboration leads to shared opportunities and sustained growth. When businesses invest in each other, they strengthen not only their own foundation but the broader community as well.
We would like to thank everyone who attended and contributed to the success of this workshop. Your engagement and willingness to connect are what make these events meaningful and impactful.
We also extend our sincere appreciation to our speakers, whose time and expertise continue to elevate these conversations and provide valuable insights to the St. Petersburg business community.
Looking ahead, we are excited to continue building on this momentum. Our next Business Education Network Workshop will take place on April 16 from 11:30 AM to 2:00 PM at the St. Pete Chamber. We invite you to join us as we continue to foster connections, share knowledge, and strengthen the relationships that drive our community forward.
